DONNA DONNA

JOAN BAEZ - DONNA DONNA

On a wagon bound for market
There\'s a calf with a mournful eye
High above him there\'s a swallow
Wingingftly through the sky

How the winds are laughing
They laugh with all they might
Laugh and laugh the whole day through
And half the summer\'s night

Donna Donna Donna Donna
Donna Donna Donna Do
Donna Donna Donna Donna
Donna Donna Donna Do

"Stop complaining" said the farmer
"Who told you a calf to be
Why don\'t you have wings to fly with
Like the swallow so proud and free

Calves are easily bound and slaughtered
Never knowing the reason why
But who ever treasures freedom
Like the swallow has learned to fly

DIAMONDS AND RUST

DIAMONDS AND RUST - JOAN BAEZ

Well , I\'ll be damned
Here comes your ghost again
But that\'s not unusual
It\'s just that the moon is full and you happened to call
And here I sit, hand on the telephone
Hearing a voice I\'d known a couple of light years ago
Heading straight for a fall

As I remember your eyes
were bluer than robin\'s eggs
My poetry was lousy, you said
"Where were you calling from?"
"A booth in the Midwest"
Ten years ago I bought you some cufflinks
You brought me something
We both know what memories can bring
They bring diamond and rust

Well, you burst on the scene were already a legend
The unwatched phenomenon
The original vagabond you strayed into my arms
And there you stayed temporarily lost at sea
The Madonna was yours for free
Yes, the girl on the half shell
Could keep you unharmed

Now I see you standing with brown leaves falling all around
Snow in your hair
Now you\'re smiling out the window of that crummy hotel over Washington Square
Our breath comes out white cloud mingles and hangs in the air
Speaking strictly for me
We both could\'ve died then and there

Now you\'re telling me you\'re not nostalgic
Then give me another word for it
You who\'re so good with words and at keeping thing vague
Cause I need some of that vagueness now
It\'s all come back too clearly
Yes , I love you dearly
And if you\'re offering me diamonds and rust
I\'ve already paid

BLOWING IN THE WIND

BLOWING IN THE WIND- joan baez

How many roads must a man walk down
Before they call him a man
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand
How many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they\'re forever banned
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind

How many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea
How many years can some people exist
Before they\'re allowed to be free
How many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn\'t see
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry
How many deaths will it take
\'Till he knows that too many people have died
The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind
The answer is blowing in the wind
